Sakaré
Visual Identity Design
I created a comprehensive visual identity for Sakaré, a luxe Pâtisserie in Bangalore. I developed a cohesive brand package that included logo design, visual direction for social media content, and product photography. Through carefully crafted visuals, I helped establish Sakare's unique presence in Bangalore's culinary scene, blending traditional pastry-making with contemporary design elements.

Sakaré
சர்க்கரை | शक़्क़र | Sucre | Sugar
Sakaré is a luxury dessert experience inspired by the universal appeal of sweetness that transcends borders and cultures. The journey of sugar, "Sakkarai", from its origins in India to its transformation into "Sucre" in France, embodies this idea. Founded by a pastry chef from a small island in the Andamans, Sakaré celebrates the unity found in diversity.
The chef, trained in France, has brought her expertise to Bangalore, where she creates a fusion of Indian and French sweets. Sakaré stands for the harmony between different cultures, offering the elegance of French patisserie while staying connected to its island heritage. This harmony of flavors creates a unique dessert experience that bridges tradition and innovation.
Sakaré is set to host monthly pop-up events at the chef's residence, creating an experiential dining setup. These events invite guests to meet and dine with the chef in a unique, live setting.

The Visual Identity
The visual identity of Sakaré was designed to embody classiness, elegance, and luxury, reflecting the fine quality of ingredients used in its exquisite desserts. The client requested a clean, sophisticated, and luxurious look for the patisserie, ensuring that the design could be easily adapted and translated across both digital and print mediums.
The Colours
The primary color of Sakaré's branding is a sophisticated teal green (Deep Sea #063F51), evoking a tropical and natural feel. This is contrasted with a creamy white (SUGAR #F8EEDF) to create high-contrast striped patterns. Complementary colors are to be used for different editions of menus and various packaging products. The color palette is designed to evoke a somber feel, utilizing muted tones to emphasize a sober ambiance while also connecting to the natural colors of ingredients.

The Typeface
The branding of Sakaré utilizes a robust serif font, Cormorant Garamond, a Garalde typeface with a classical look that suits both traditional and modern settings. In a world currently trending with modern decorative serifs, the decision was made to use a more robust typeface.
While selecting a typeface, considerations included price, licensing, support for French glyphs and numerals, and versatility in terms of weights and styles. Cormorant Garamond met all these criteria and is available on Google Fonts.
Garamond is not just a single typeface but a group of typefaces originating from 16th-century France, created by Claude Garamond. Garamond's work emerged during a transitional period when old-fashioned black-letter fonts were being replaced by more modern Roman typefaces. His designs, which resembled a more legible version of pen-and-ink handwriting, inspired the printer Jean Jannon to create a similar type in the early 17th century, leading to a revival of Garamond's style.
The Graphics
The primary graphics for Sakaré include French stripes, inspired by traditional French textile patterns such as Breton stripes and ticking stripes. This simple pattern can be easily recreated and connotates a sense of "Frenchness." High-contrast patterns like these stand out on packaging boxes and complement the designed logo, chosen fonts, and colors.
The icon mark can be tiled to create a more delicate pattern, suitable for use on wrapping sheets or butter papers.
The Photography
For the photography, the constraints included the existing location, lighting and cutlery. The golden hour lighting was utilized to create high-contrast backdrops for the baked products, with subtle pops of flowers added to evoke a touch of nature. All photos were taken using natural lighting.
Photographs of the chef at work were included to connect the audience with the person behind the products, adding a sense of human warmth to the images. These visuals, are intended for use in promotional content and professional pitch decks.
The Socials
Instagram is the primary social media platform used by the client. Mockups were created to visualize how the branding elements would integrate into the brand's Instagram page. The goal was to keep it visually focused, highlighting the product, people, and experience. Menus and invite cards were designed with a structured layout, ensuring all important information is clearly displayed.

The Logo
The logo of Sakaré merges the fleur-de-lis with a palm tree, symbolizing the union of French and Andaman influences. The fleur-de-lis, shaped like a lily, translates to "lily flower" or "flower of the iris" in French. Historically, it has represented various concepts, including royalty, French cultural heritage, Christianity, light, and female virtue. Palms, on the other hand, are vital components of the tropical forest ecosystem. Both elements are visually significant to their places of origin.
The logo features delicate strokes and elegant curved shapes, embracing a feminine delicacy and incorporating symbols inspired by nature. Upon closer inspection, the letters of the brand can be discerned within the icon, adding a hidden layer of intrigue.
